Satisfaction for Municipal Governance and Services Remains the Same, Mayor Ko’s approval rating Drops
The June poll conducted by the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission indicates that 51% of the respondents approve Mayor Ko’s performance, while 37% disapproves and 12 % have no opinions or do not know. For the department heads’ (Ko administration’s) performance in general, 48% approve, 26% disapprove, and 26% have no opinions or do not know.
Among the policies Taipei City Government (hereinafter referred to as “TCG”) implemented, more than 50% of the respondents are pleased with environmental protection, public safety, Taipei City Hospital, cultural events, transportation and social welfare. The policies having approval rating under 50% are public construction and elementary & secondary education, with the rating of 42% and 40% respectively.
The poll also shows most of the respondents are positive about the service attitude and efficiency of TCG staff. 81% approve of the attitude and 69% for the efficiency. In addition, 75% satisfy with the quality of life in Taipei. The result reveals the majority of Taipei city residents recognize TCG’s administrative efficiency and the quality of life in Taipei.
The poll is based on telephone interviews conducted in the evenings of June 24 through June 26, 2019, successfully interviewing 1,295 people living in Taipei and aged 18 or older (833 people refusing to be interviewed) be people. The telephone numbers are randomly selected from residential numbers in Taipei City. The margin of sampling error is ±2.72% with a 95% confidence level. The sample weights for gender, age and resident registration are calculated.
