Deputy Mayor Pong Praised Great Results of Open Data Uses and Thanked Researchers’ Efforts
In order to push all Taipei City Government (hereinafter referred to as “TCG”) agencies to comply with the open data policy, and encourage the outside use of government data, TCG promulgated the Operation Guidelines Governing Incentive Rewards for Research Using Taipei City Government Data in 2016 (changed to the Taipei City Government Operation Guidelines Governing Incentive Rewards for Research Using Open Data on August 28, 2019). The applications for the incentive rewards are accepted and reviewed between September and December every year. For the 2019 applications, the rewards were granted to 6 research papers. The Top Excellence Prize went to the paper concerning the distribution of YouBike stations in Taipei City. The other 5 papers, granted the Excellence Prizes, were about the governance of cultural and creative industries, urban flood simulations, the keys to successful reconstruction of urban renewal units, the analysis of gentrification, etc.
Deputy Mayor Cheng-sheng Pong presented the prizes to the winning teams at the Taipei City Executive Meeting today (January 14, 2020). Besides thanking the participating researchers’ efforts, he hoped the competition and other mechanisms on open data will encourage more researchers to participate in such studies. Their research results and suggestions are valuable references for policy formulation and implementation in the future, and further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Taipei City Government.
