Mayor Ko’s Approval Ticks back up by 4% to 55%

According to the poll conducted in December 2019 by the Research, Development and Research Commission, Taipei City Government, 55% of the respondents approve Mayor Ko’s job performance, 35% do not and 10% have no opinions or do not know. The approval rating increases by 4% in comparison to the previous poll (September 2019). For the satisfaction on the department heads of Taipei City Government (Ko administration), 47% approve, 24% do not, and 28% have not opinions or do not know.
In sum, Mayor Ko’s job approval rating is slightly up; the administration’s remains the same. In contrast to the poll conducted in June 2019 that the difference between Mayor Ko’s approval and his administration’s is only 3%, now the difference is back to about 8%. It reveals the impact of news and incidents on the approval rating has been decreased.
【Satisfaction hits 5-year high for transportation, public safety, cultural events and environment protection】
In regard to the satisfaction for the implementation of policy measures, 50% or higher of the respondents are satisfied for “environment protection,” “public safety,” “Taipei City Hospital,” “cultural events,” “transportation” and “social welfare.” For “public works” and “primary and secondary education,” less than 50% of the respondents are satisfied, but the satisfaction rating is higher than the dissatisfaction. The ratings for “public works” and “primary and secondary education” are 46% and 39% respectively.
Most of the respondents are positive about city staff’ service attitude and efficiency, with 79% and 67% approval rating respectively. They are also satisfied about the quality of life in Taipei City. The results show people well recognize the administrative efficiency and effectiveness of Taipei City Government and the quality of life in Taipei.
【Poll sampling】
The poll is based on telephone interviews conducted in the evenings of December 16-18, 2019, successfully interviewing 1,103 people living in Taipei and aged 18 or older (852 people refused participatton). The telephone numbers are randomly selected from residential numbers in Taipei City. The margin of sampling error is ±2.95% with a 95% confidence level. The responses are weighted by age, gender and household registration.
